Eighth Week after Pentecost, Monday, August 1, 2022
Loving Divine Family,
We call to you from the wilderness. We see your light on the horizon. It quickly overtakes us and your voice vibrates the earth. “Where have you been? What are you doing here?” you ask. We have sought wisdom and folly in this world, Yahweh, and have tried to find meaning from the works of our hands. But we are lost! It makes no difference! But Life-giving Spirit wraps us like a newborn baby and you press your lips to our ears. You invite us to seek you with our whole heart, not with human wisdom.
Oh LORD, our God, what is the meaning of life? What is its purpose? Both the wise and foolish die. Our works, our belongings, and our titles do not bring meaning or happiness. Sometimes, we entertain the thoughts of “why bother with life?” without using wisdom. Thank you, Life-giving Spirit, for revealing to us that we feel like this because we are making it about ourselves and not about God. We turn our eyes, hearts, and minds to you, O God. Thank you that we bring you delight. Thank you that our meaning and purpose is to be loved by you, which brings you joy. Praise to you!
I seek you with my whole heart today, Loving Yahweh, and thank you for…
We look to you for guidance beyond our own reasoning, and will build with the loving wisdom that only can come from you.
“Let us do our work as well,
Both the unseen and the seen;
Make the house, where Gods may dwell,
Beautiful, entire, and clean…
Build to-day, then, strong and sure,
With a firm and ample base;
And ascending and secure
Shall to-morrow find its place.
Thus alone can we attain
To those turrets, where the eye
Sees the world as one vast plain,
And one boundless reach of sky.”
(The Builders, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
With joy, we praise you!
