Today, we invite you to ‘Reread, Rest and Reflect’ on the prayers of the past week.
Lectionary Readings for Today:
2 Kings 2:1-15
We enter your sacred prayer space, contemplating your charge for us. We hear of false teachers and evangelists who cater to people seeking fulfilment of their own purpose. Their messages are like reeds tossing in the wind, with no direction or firm foundation. As we listen to your true teachings, you remind us that you were already preparing us in the womb; Life-giving Spirit breathes life and gifts into us to serve as strength for our journey. You remind us to follow your wise teachings and Elders so we will stay true to you.
Dream Maker and Keeper, we come to listen to you. Thank you for the gift of dreams, even for the ones that feel like nightmares, and for speaking to us through them. We thank you for the wise, skilled persons who help us hear your loving message from our dreams. You know better than us and you know the way. Thank you for discerning guides who prepare us for what is around the corner.
We are busy doing important work. We hear the world tell us that there is no time to waste, that the world will fall apart if we rest. We look to you and hear you invite us to rest, to take a sabbath rest. Thank you for pausing from creating, so you could enjoy and celebrate what you had established. Thank you for this holy date with you, this sabbath rest, which will prevent us from judging and becoming hard, angry, and bitter.
We see creation’s splendour and beauty. You withhold nothing, giving freely to all creation and to us. Give us wisdom to learn creation’s way, to give you praise and honour, and to receive in return the fullness of your love and grace.
