Matthew 19:16-22 (Living Bible) read by Mark and Connie Beingessner

Matthew 19:16-22

Loving Divine Family,

We enter your sacred prayer space in awe of your mystery. You have shown us what is good. You have provided wise Elders and Knowledge Keepers to help us interpret your word. Life-giving Spirit moves in us and gives us peace for contemplation. As you invite us to rest with you here and listen to your teachings, we want to get on with the learning. But you remind us that we can only learn through worshipping you alone and turning from all idols and household gods.

Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, all we have is because of you. We come into this world with nothing, and we leave this world with nothing. We fool ourselves thinking our wealth, status, and identity are because of our own work. Thank you, we are your beloved gifts. May we hear the call to return to you to maintain love and justice and to follow you. May we remember that what we have is because of you. May we hold tight to you, instead of our possessions, status, and identity. Your joy is our strength.

I seek your strength to worship you alone today, O LORD, and thank you for…

We lay our idols at your feet—wealth, diet, body image, worldly knowledge, popularity, perfectionism—we cannot keep up with their demands. Take these idols from us and replace them only with a passion to seek and know you more each day.

With joy we praise you!

Amen!

Cherie and Donovan Mutschler
