Spiritual Direction
- is a time of sacred and holy listening, together; the Spiritual Director and the person seeking spiritual direction, or the Spiritual Directee, engage in a special way to listen for the guidance of the Spirit in the life of the Directee.
Spiritual Direction is an opportunity for the Directee to search for a deeper awareness of the movement of the Spirit, and the presence of God in their everyday life.
What is the role of the Spiritual Director?
A trained Spiritual Director and member of Spiritual Directors International (sdi.org) is available to meet regularly with a Directee to provide a listening ear. They become companions on the journey to discover a deeper understanding of God’s love and activity in the life of the Directee.
How often do you meet?
Spiritual direction meetings take place at a time that is best for the person seeking spiritual direction. The meetings can occur in whatever pattern of regular dialogue best fulfills the needs of the Directee (once a month is recommended).
What is the setting like?
The meetings take place for one hour online using Zoom. A sacred space for sharing, and dialoguing is created with careful attention by the Spiritual Director to the needs of the Directee.
What takes place during a Spiritual Direction meeting?
With careful attention to the lectionary readings, and the prayer life of the Directee, a gentle rhythm is fostered. The Spiritual Director listens attentively and receives what is being shared. Together they enter into dialogue, as needed, allowing the Spirit to do her healing, and revealing, as the Directee draws closer to God.
Who can have a Spiritual Director?
A person who is experiencing a shift in their spirituality and wants to increase their awareness of God in their daily life, should explore spiritual direction. The time is not meant for counselling. It is an opportunity for the Directee to search for a deeper awareness of the movement of the Spirit, and the presence of God in their everyday life.
Is there a cost for Spiritual Direction?
The fee for spiritual direction can be discussed at the initial introductory meeting.
